COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY (CBT) is a widely-used therapy which aims to help people identify and change negative beliefs and thought patterns. It is effective for people experiencing depression, anxiety and fears. Information about CBT can be found on the Australia Counselling website https://www.australiacounselling.com.au/cbt-cognitive-behaviour-therapy/
ACCEPTANCE and COMMITMENT THERAPY (ACT) uses mindfulness and values work to maximise a person’s potential, increase their ability to accept their struggles, and to increase their psychological flexibility. Information about ACT can be found on the Actmindfully website https://www.actmindfully.com.au/about-act/
ART THERAPY can help a person increase self-awareness, and find healing and peace through the act of creativity itself. Images created with ink, paint, pastels or crayons, sculptures and collages, are all modes of artistic expression.
ART PSYCHOTHERAPY works on a deeper level, drawing out inner resources and insight from the person’s unconscious realm into the created images. It is a powerful tool. I practice art psychotherapy, and also use other creative, practical tools to help people in their counselling journey. I was trained in art therapy by Robert Gray, registered art therapist and psychologist. Roberts runs the College for Clinical and Educational Art Therapy (CECAT https://arttherapycourses.com.au/). I recommend Robert’s courses for anyone interested in art therapy, either for personal interest or professional development.
